More on the topic of teenagers and technology – here’s a nifty video created by thatsnotcool.com, which is a great resource for getting teens to think about their digital behavior. https://youtube.googleapis.com/v/sMzUnQhP3A0&source=uds #internet #pornography #relationships #sexualabuse
I just discovered Kajeet.com and, despite not having any idea what the name is about, I am already a big giant fan. It is a cell phone company designed for parents to use with their children. THIS IS VERY MUCH NEEDED! On one hand we’ve all come to expect that we will be able to reach people we need to talk to most of the time, that there will be a phone on hand in case of emergency, etc. – and who needs to be reachable more than our kids? Knowing where they are and who they
If you or someone you know is struggling with this problem, your first stop should be the Guard Your Eyes website. Here is an article I read recently that I found poignant and relevant. #internet #pornography
“With online counseling, your clients do not have the ability to learn about you from the frames on your walls, your office décor, your car in the parking lot, the pictures of your family on your desk, etc. Therefore, it is all the more important to humanize yourself by telling the client some information about who you are and what you are about.” This is from an article from Thriveworks on building rapport (connection with a client) in online counseling venues. It is also a good reminder to parents that children and teens need guidance and monitoring around thei
I reread my previous post on Darkness to Light‘s Stewards of Children program and I realized I didn’t do justice to the website. The Stewards of Children program, as I said, may be unexceptional, but the site itself is really quite fantastic. They have a tremendous amount of information, resources, tools, trainings, etc., and I have no doubt that the world is a safer place because of them. I just didn’t want anyone to think I was casting aspersions on the site as whole. #c
I just found out about another very useful online resource: a yahoogroup called Refa’enu, a support group for members of the Jewish community and their loved ones who face the challenge of living with a mood disorder. Check it out at http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/refaenu. #internet #mentalhealth
This weekend I came across a booklet on the halachos of the internet (offered for free out of a cardboard box in my shul). I immediately grabbed a copy, eagerly expecting to discover exactly how many issurim de’oraisa I am violating every time I pop open the internet. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised by what turned out to be a pretty useful set of topics, such as whether having a webcam on can resolve a yichud problem (yes) or whether you are allowed to use someone else’s
